arming repression

Mark Curtis presents a piece on British arms exports on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4. You can listen here (it begins at 38.02 – ends 47.01).

He explains how British arms are being sent to oppressive regimes and countries with severe human rights abuses despite government stating the contrary. He goes on to explain that Britain actually supports oppressive regimes by not only exporting arms to them but by also training their armed forces. Britain does so not because these arms sales are of great economic benefit, but because it servers in Britain’s interest for these oppressive regimes to remain in power. Much of this information was uncovered from 30 year old files that have become declassified.
