Taxes for Peace – give us your statement of conscience

In 1916 the Military Service Act granted the first inclusive right for conscientious objection to military service. In 2016 Conscience proposed extending this right into the tax system – and this cause was taken up by Ruth Cadbury MP. She tabled the Taxes for Peace Bill, which passed the first reading. Unfortunately, because it doesn’t enjoy the support of the government, it will be unable to proceed to a second reading.

We believe that conscientious objection is impossible in a society where more and more tax money is poured into weapons of mass destruction and the ability to annihilate our planet with nuclear weapons.

Conscience is asking our members and supporters to join us on December 2nd in Parliament Square to give your statement on why military spending is an issue of conscience – it will be then be sent to all MPs.

Filming will begin promptly around 12.30pm.

Come and add your voice to the movement that’s asking for a simple but dramatic change: taxes for peace not war.

RSVP here.
