Conscience is seeking a talented researcher to produce a report into the working of a potential new government post “The Minister for Peace and Disarmament”.

This short-term project-based role will require the candidate to hit the ground running, producing a 10,000-word report looking at how this government post could shape the interaction between defence, diplomacy and development.

The report would aim to make specific recommendations about how the post would work in practice and challenge established thinking in foreign policy.

Good research skills, as well as good writing skills and an excellent grasp of English, are essential. Also, a high level of knowledge about the peace sector and issues surrounding it are necessary. Specific knowledge about military expenditure, non-military security and conflict prevention would be desirable.

The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background with a solid understanding of how public policy works in Whitehall. This is expected to be a 12-week position finishing on completion of the report. This position is fully funded with the rate available on request.
