About the Event
Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, we held the AGM via Zoom and it was fantastic to meet supporters from across the country, the format surely helping to bring people together.
The event began with a short video detailing the activity we’ve undertaken over the past year. This video is currently being added to and will shortly be uploaded to our YouTube page and will be widely available going forward.
During the AGM, itself, there were numerous insightful discussions regarding Conscience’s current work and our activity going forward. It enthused us as staff and I hope it had a similar effect for others involved. We are excited for the year ahead.
Our Treasurer and Executive Committee member, Monica Frisch, also kindly put together a report on Conscience’s finances: “The draft accounts for the year ended 31st March 2020 show a healthy position with an end of year balance of £56,359 when the two large legacies received in 2018-19 are included. Without the money from the legacies the difference between income and expenditure on the year would have been almost £20,000. This is nevertheless an improvement on the previous year when the deficit was over £28,000.
Total income was £52,190 which includes a one-off donation from the Peace Tax Seven and the grant for the Voices of Conscientious Objection project. The International Conference brought in £2,254, plus £130 after the end of the financial year. Membership accounts for almost 58% of our income. Expenditure added up to £71,452 of which staffing accounts for £44,607 and the office £11,954. Further details are available from the Treasurer on request.
Accounts for the five months since 1st April 2020 show that income is still not sufficient to cover expenditure and that it will be necessary to draw on the Legacies Fund, which holds the money from legacies received in previous years, again this year, unless we get new grants and raise more funds from appeals.
We are very grateful to those who have donated to our recent appeal which has already brought in over £2,000.”
