Calling for an End to Violence in the Middle East: Invest in Peace

Updated: Jan 14

The continued deaths and suffering in the Middle East are appalling and we condemn the violence. Sadly, this is not a new situation. There has been tensions and violence in the Middle East for many decades and the root causes desperately need to be recognised and tackled.

The United Kingdom government has recently extended a helping hand by sending £10 million in humanitarian aid to support civilians in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Read more about this effort. While this is a commendable step, we firmly believe that additional funding is essential for both short-term relief and long-term conflict resolution

We consider further funds are also needed to resolve the conflict, both in the short-term and in the longer-term. Without investment in conflict resolution, tensions will continue, grievances may fester, and sustained violence is likely.

We call for continued efforts to bring about a ceasefire and de-escalation of violence, the release of hostages, access to humanitarian aid and the long-term resolution of tensions and support efforts to build peace in communities and countries world-wide. As an organisation, we firmly believe in investing in peace before war starts.
